Shining Bright: Celebrating Achievements and New Beginnings at Kiota Kids
Hello Friends and Family of Kiota Kids Children’s Home,
I hope this message finds you well! July has been an exciting month at the centre, and we’re so thrilled to share some of the wonderful things that have been happening — all thanks to you. Your kindness and support continue to ripple through every corner of our little home, and we can’t wait to show you what your generosity is helping to create.
Congratulations to Our Scholars!
13 Students Received School Awards!
All of these kids were ranked top performing in their classes by the teachers. The award the school gives to these students are plates and buckets and the kids were so excited and proud of their gifts! They worked very hard this semester and we thank you all for giving them all this opportunity to learn and to excel!
New Library!!
We were overjoyed to welcome our longtime friend Collin Milone from New York this month. Not only did he bring smiles and hugs, but he also helped launch our new Kiota Kids Library! The kids helped transform a spare classroom into a cozy reading room —painting the walls, laying fresh flooring, adding a comfy carpet, reupholstering old couches, and even building shelves. The only thing missing now is books! This space will be a quiet retreat for learning, dreaming, studying, and storytelling. If you’d like to help us fill those empty shelves, we welcome book donations or funding for local second hand purchases!
Happy Healthy Bellies
We’ve revamped our meal plan to include more greens, veggies, and fresh fruits for better nutrition (and tastier meals!). And as a weekend treat? Milk tea and bread for breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays— the kid’s choice of a special reward for a week of hard work in school!
Kitchen Renovations
Our current kitchen setup lacks proper ventilation which causes smoke to fill the space where our cook and kids are preparing and cooking all of our meals. We do not want them to be breathing so much smoke daily and we’ve drawn up blueprints for a safer, more efficient kitchen with better ventilation, chimneys, a water collection system, and even a sink tap! This project will not only improve health but also conserve firewood, water, and energy. We hope to begin construction soon with a little help in funding!
We Have a Logo
Introducing the official Kiota Kids logo! We chose a tree representing growth and at its heart is a “kiota” (Swahili for nest). The thumbprint looking branches celebrates the uniqueness of each of our kids who come to call this centre their kiota, their home, their family.
We Need Your Help!!
The final school term of the year begins next month. We’re so close to covering school fees for all 60 of our students —here’s what we need:
Primary School (40 kids): $300 USD
Secondary School (4 teens): $250 USD
Vocational Boarding School (16 students): $1,500 USD
If you'd like to help keep our children learning and dreaming, we would be endlessly grateful.

It’s all made possible because of you. Thank you for walking beside us, believing in us, and cheering for our kids as they grow, learn, and shine.
