From Classrooms to Chickens: September Highlights at Kiota Kids
Hello Friends and Family of Kiota Kids Children’s Home,
We hope this message finds you well! August and September were exciting months at the centre, and we are so happy to share what’s been happening — all thanks to your support.
1. Website!!!!
kiotakids.org is finally live! We hope that everyone can feel more connected to the projects and children through the website.
We are so grateful to all of our supporters and we would love to thank you personally. However, many donations are coming through as "Anonymous" on the Truhoma platform which means we have no idea who you are! If this is an intentional choice, wonderful. If not, please click "Register an Account" which will then attach your name to the donation. Either way, we want to say a HUGE thank you!

2. Back to School
After a five-week holiday break, the kids are now back in their classrooms for their third and final trimester of the year. We are grateful to everyone who supported scholarships and school fees — your generosity makes sure every child has the chance to keep learning and growing.
3.Full Library Shelves
Remember the Kiota Kids Library we built recently? Exciting news! We have officially partnered with the Igembe North Initiative and the Meru County Library.
Here’s what that means:
Meru County Library is donating books to help build our collection.
They’ve also launched a bulk lending program, allowing us to borrow a large set of books each month for just a small annual fee — keeping our shelves fresh and engaging!
The library staff have committed to visiting Kiota Kids for reading sessions, book-care training, and fun activities designed to inspire a lifelong love of learning.
This partnership is such a gift, and we can’t wait for the kids to get immersed in stories and expand their curiosity for knowledge.
4. Mazingira Day -
A Day for the Earth & Kiota Farm
Our friends at the Igembe North Initiative are hosting a tree-planting volunteer day at Kiota Kids on October 10th — part of Mazingira Day, a celebration of environmental conservation.
It’s going to be a day full of games, snacks, and environmental education, along with lots of tree planting. The kids are so excited to get their hands dirty! Thanks to donations from local friends and the Meru National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), we’ll be planting:
10 orange tree seedlings
10 Hass avocado seedlings
150 assorted fruit trees
Not only will this help the environment, but it will also grow into future food security and nutrition for the children.
5. Eggs for everyone
Our chickens are laying more than ever these days!
We collect eggs until we have enough for every child to enjoy a boiled egg for breakfast — and let me tell you, the excitement is real when it’s egg day!
A small treat that brings big smiles.
6. Looking Ahead – March 2026 Trip
We’ve officially booked our flights back to Kiota Kids for the whole of March 2026! We are thrilled to be spending time with the kids again and already have some exciting projects lined up — including building, art, sports, gardening, photography, and teaching initiatives.
If anyone is interested in joining along on this trip and meeting the kids and supporting at the centre, you are always welcome. Please reach out! We have a few new friends joining us already and the children are so excited!
Thank You
Every school term, tree planted, egg enjoyed, page turned in a new book and every smile— it all comes back to you. Your support makes Kiota Kids not just a centre, but a family and a future for these incredible children.
With gratitude,
The Kiota Kids Family
